The 2014 OUCH! Race Series is Presented by Net Health and Smith & Nephew

  • Registration includes a commemorative 2014 OUCH! Race Series T-shirt, runner bib number,  finisher ribbons and drinks & snacks at the finish line.
  • Proceeds from the 2014 OUCH! Race series support global wound care travel scholarships, wound care in the U.S. and wound research.  This year we are pleased to be supporting the Wound Healing Society Foundation (WHSF) and HVO/AAWC Global Aliance.

Please join us in raising awareness about wounds while raising funds for research. If you cannot make the race, feel free to donate online.

The Bates-Jensen Wound Reach Foundation is committed to improving wound care globally by increasing public awareness, expanding knowledge, enhancing care and supporting research. The Wound Reach Foundation is donating the race proceeds to create a clinical research grant via the Wound Healing Society Foundation. This partnership is a natural one given the mission of the WHSF is to improve the quality of life for wound healing patients and their families through the support of awareness, research and education.

Impaired healing can affect people with compromised health, traumatic injuries and burns, and people of all ages. Healing wounds is a global problem:

  • In the US alone, over 5.7 million patients are affected with chronic wounds
  • An estimated $20 billion dollars is spent annually trying to heal these wounds, but is likely much higher
  • Increases in population age, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and trauma all place an ever-increasing burden on the healthcare system
  • Laboratory and clinical research are necessary to find innovative ways to treat wounds and improve healing

5K / 10K Fun Walk/Runs at Organization Conferences

The Bates-Jensen Wound Reach Foundation conducts two types of charity race events. We offer 5K or 5/10K OUCH! Race Run/Walk events, which are held alongside professional organization meetings, such as those for wound care and diabetes. The professional organization races are typically conducted as “fun runs” and are located within walking distance of the conference facilities. Participants in a professional organization OUCH! Race receive a commemorative race t-shirt, post race snack and official finisher ribbon.

Community Races

Our community OUCH! Race events are hosted in communities with interest in wound care and running events. Community race events are typically timed, official events and may be hosted by healthcare organizations, community groups or volunteers. Participants in a community OUCH! Race receive a commemorative race t-shirt, post race snack and official finisher medal.
